by Mark Hart on behalf of the SJCC at the 2024 SJCC annual supper
For more years than I care to remember we have come together once a year to celebrate our industry achievements within Suffolk. We have been able to do this as a result of the continuous hard work and total commitment of a select group of individuals.
For those who have been attending our SJCC dinners over the decades, there is one name that is instantly linked with the evening, John Norman. Tonight, as we gather for our annual celebrations our hearts are heavy with the absence of John, yet in the midst of our sorrow, we are also surrounded by the warmth of cherished memories and the enduring legacy of a remarkable individual. John’s contribution to our awards evening will be something that will be hard to emulate, with his unique style of delivery being a huge factor in us enjoying the evening.
As we take a moment to remember John, let us pay tribute to his remarkable contributions, unwavering dedication and the lasting impact he has had on so many of us within the industry, be it through education, the organisations he was associated with or just his incredible determination to make the town and county we call home a better place to live. There can be no doubt that John was a driving force behind our collective efforts within the industry and was a source of inspiration to so many of us. His commitment to excellence and passion for quality was evident in everything he did.
As we reflect not only on John’s life tonight but also his contributions, let us also remember the moments of joy and laughter shared in his presence, whether it be a giggle over his very clear and communicated view on something or just at the end of the evening when mulling over events.
Finally, to Christine and the family, all of us tonight thank you for providing John with the support and time to contribute so much and for so long to our industry. We promise to honour his memory by carrying forward his torch of vision, passion, relentless pursuit of excellence and unwavering commitment to making our town and county a place to be proud of.
